Dance Like No One is Watching

The other day at my regular swing dance night I had a sensational dance. It wasn’t one of those great dances which happen sometimes, but rarely, and feature an intimate connection, super smoothness, and a perfectly matching pulse. No, and it also wasn’t one of those dances that are sometimes had with great and strong leaders who just sweep you off your feet (sometimes even literally) and make you move in ways you had never thought of before, which is pretty cool, but where any input of the follower isn’t a major requirement of the dance and you as a follower feel rather exchangable.

No, this sensational dance was wild, energetic, and crazy, with no regard to footwork, aesthetics, or floor craft (sorry, fellow dancers). It also didn’t involve thinking and making conscious decisions. It was just one of those moments where you’re so completely immersed in the dance that you don’t dance to the music anymore, your bodies are the music. You basically just rock out, let go, the feet do whatever feels right and fun to them, and it somehow works out while dancing in a couple. And it was so much fun. I ended up with a stitch.

The gentleman I had this dance with is my go-to guy for silly music and crazyness, and guess what? It was his birthday, and the song was “I like pie I like cake”:
