One-Day-One-Job Challenge - Day 1
- career
In fact, at times it can be quite a distressing experience that brings out the worst procrastinator in me. In a minute of madness and in order to make it more fun - or to make it a wee bit fun at all - I publicly challenged myself to apply for one position every working day until I have a job. This sounds not like a whole lot, or does it? But so far I managed to apply on average for one job per week, so this will be an improvement by 500 %. Also, I am still only applying for jobs that I actually want to do. And since there is no endless supply of these, it means that I will have to write speculative applications as well once I run out of published job postings. Approaching interesting companies and organisations directly and/or via extensive networking was actually the advice given to me by a career advisor I had turned to at the Guardian Jobseeking Advice Surgery, an online career advice panel discussion I took part in. So here I am, working through my lists. (I love lists - another fun part of job hunting!)
To start off my job hunting challenge with a bang, on day one I applied for a position as a
Whisky Creatorfor Glenmorangie. Sounds fun, doesn’t it? Writing the email definitely was.
The perks:
- The job is in Edinburgh.
- Creating whisky, how cool is that?!
The perils:
- No perils - helloo?? Whisky Creator!!!
How well does the job description match my career aspirations? 7/10
How painful was it to write the application? 4/10
I’ll keep you posted about the outcome in the comments.
